About Steve Carter
A Career in Performance, Leadership, and Transformation
Before founding CrossroadsCT, I spent over 30 years working internationally as a performance psychologist and leadership specialist, partnering with organisations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the US.
Highlights include:
Introducing Reversal Theory, a major new theory of motivation and emotion, into the world of work — including the development of innovative coaching tools and psychometrics.
Leading a cultural transformation of a failed Irish bank, work overseen by the national regulator and reported through to the IMF and ECB - winning the ABP Award for Leadership in Change Management.
Delivering leadership programmes for global clients including HSBC, Asahi, Allied Irish Bank, The Economist, Reckitt Benckiser, and Scania,
International facilitation of senior leadership teams including: Gulf International Bank, Kuwait Finance House, Commercial Bank of Dubai,
Designing the UK’s largest ever management competence qualification for the Institute of Management.
Contributing to major leadership development initiatives across Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the former East Germany.
I’ve also chaired conferences, facilitated international management programmes, mediated at senior levels, and authored more than 50 publications — including books such as Renaissance Management, The Road to Audacity, and How to Survive and Thrive in an Impossible World.
Today, I bring this experience into my coaching and therapeutic work — helping people and teams build high performance that’s sustainable, human, and grounded in real psychology.

Personal Statement
Walt Whitman got it right, we are not one thing or another we are one thing AND another. I am a psychologist - I love the subject and have been intrigued by it all my life. I am a musician and a writer. I could not imagine stopping either and I have some success with both. And I am inveterate explorer give or take a dodgy knee. I am also a father, partner, hopefully a good friend. And a teacher and a therapist. I am an OK yachtsman, a clumsy skier and a half-qualified pilot. ( I can do take-offs but not landings). All of these things inform and shape and inspire the other. I believe a full life is not one about achieving greater and greater success - whatever that may be but is about 'inhabiting' yourself as much as possible and in that you may become truly great. We are paradoxical and serendipity may be the alchemy of our futures.
